Cambodia Casinos
There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino gambling is banned. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.
The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel building that features many comforts on top of the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
